With Revel, you can refund excess payments anytime there is a negative balance due. Refunds are possible even if an existing payment is not present in the system such as receiptless returns, old orders, or payments taken with a 3rd party system.

Refund Settings

To enable refunds for excess payments:

  1. In the Management Console ([yoursubdomain].revelup.com), navigate to the Settings tab.
  2. Click Clear Selections and then type Refunds in the search bar.
  3. From the left sidebar, check Enable Card-Present Refunds.
  4. On the right side, check Enable Card-Present Refunds. Card-present refunds activates the credit tender button in cases where payments exceed sales on a transaction such as exchanges or returns. Pressing the credit button will prompt for a card swipe for a card-present refund for up to the amount of the excess payment. Card-present refunds are only available for FreedomPay, Vantiv (including triPOS), Mercury, and USAePay Payments.
  5. Once you've checked this setting, additional subsettings will appear. Check the various options to enable, depending on your preferences. You can enable:
    • In-Store Returns: Useful for older orders when you cannot process a refunds against the original transaction.
    • Receiptless Returns: Only available if your establishment support this functionality.
    • Exchanges
    • Cross Store: Only available if your establishment support this functionality.
  6. Click Save when done.
  7. Next, click Clear Selections again. Then, type Cash Back in the search bar.
  8. From the left sidebar, check Enable Cash Back.
  9. On the right side, check Enable Cash Back. Cash back activates the cash tender button in cases where payments exceed sales on an order such as exchanges. Pressing the cash button will create a cash refund payment for up to the amount of the excess payment.
  10. Once you've checked this setting, additional subsettings will appear. Again, check the various options to enable, depending on your preferences:


Refund Return Types

The following Return Types options now support more payment types:

  1. Receiptless Returns:
    • Store credit/ gift cards according to setting on Receiptless returns.
    • Cash back according to payment settings.
    • Card-Present refunds according to payment settings and availability of card-present refunds.
  2. Exchanges
    • Store credit/ gift cards always.
    • Cash back according to payment setting.
    • Card-present refunds according to payment setting.
  3. Returns
    • In-kind refunds always.
    • Store credit/ gift cards always.
    • Cash back according to payment settings.
    • Card-present refunds according to payment setting.
  4. Cross Store Returns
    • In-kind refunds- Available for everything except credit payments. Credit refunds shall be handled by card-present refunds.
    • Store credit/ gift cards always.
    • Cash back according to payment settings.
    • Card-present refunds according to payment setting.
