In Revel, you can assign your products to belong to product classes.This feature can give you a deeper analysis for different groups of items. For example, if you’re a bar, you can break down all your products by liquor type. In your Product Mix report, this will give you the ability to analyze your best selling liquor classes.

Creating Product Classes

Before you can assign products to classes, you will need to first create Product Classes.

  1. In the Management Console, navigate to Products > Classes.
  2. Click Add Product Class and type in the classes you want to create.
  3. Then click Save. 

Assigning Parent Classes

Revel gives you the ability to create a parent-child class relationship. When you are analyzing your classes reports, this hierarchy allows you to group items on a general category level or a subcategory level. 

  1. Begin by navigating to Products > Classes.
  2. To create your parent class, click Add Product Class. Then type in the name of your desired parent class.
  3. Then create a child class buy adding another class under the one you just created. Then click Save.
  4. Next, to link a child to a parent class, click on the Pencil Icon of the child class.
  5. In the Parent field, start typing in the name of the parent class that you created earlier.
  6. Then click Save.




Associating a Product to Class

Once the product class has been created, you can now associate products to the your different classes using two different methods.

Product Details

  1. Go to the Products tab and find the product that you want to edit.
  2. Select the pencil tab on the Pencil tab for the product details of the desired item.
  3. On the right, find the Product Class box. Click the drop down arrow and select the class you would like to attach.
  4. Then click Save.
  5. If desired, repeat steps 2-6 for remainder of the products.

Excel Templet

You can also easily assign or modify the class of your products via the Excel import/export sheet. Enter the name of your class in the Product Class column. The name for classes are case-sensitive so makes sure you type in the name exactly. For more information on import/export, please click here.

  1. Begin by going to the Products. Then select Import/Export on the bottom left corner.
  2. Export the file and open the downloaded document.
  3. Enter the name of your class in the Product Class column. The name for classes are case-sensitive so be sure to type in the name exactly as you want it.
  4. Save the spreadsheet. Then go back to Products > Import/Export and import the selected file.
