Product Classes

By Caresse | Updated

Overview

Product Classes enable you to assign products to belong to specific classes. For example, if selling quick service items, break down reporting by different food types. In the Product Mix report, this will give you a deeper analysis of your best selling food classes.

Creating Product Classes

Before you can assign products to classes, you will need to first create a Product Class.

  1. From the Management Console [yourdomainname.revelup.com], navigate to Products, then choose Classes.
  2. Click Add Product Class and type in the new class name.
  3. Then, click Save  when finished:
  4. Your new product class will show in the list of classes. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all desired product classes have been added.

Associating Parent and Child Classes

If you would like to create levels for your classes, Revel gives you the ability to create a parent-child class relationship. When you are analyzing your classes reports, this hierarchy allows you to group items on a general category level or a subcategory level.

  1. Use the steps above in Creating Product Classes to add all classes to the system. Be sure to add both parent and child classes. For example, if your parent class is shirts and you have a child class for Women's Shirts, create both.
  2. Save when finished.
  3. Next, to link a child to a parent class, click on the  icon of the child class to access the class details:
  4. In the Parent field, start typing in the name of the parent class that you created:
  5. Save when finished.
  6. On the list of Product classes, you will now see a hierarchy with child classes indented below each parent class:

Assigning Products to Classes Individually

Once the product classes have been created, you can now associate products with your different classes. To do this manually for each product, use the steps below:

  1. From the Management Console, navigate to Products. Expand your categories and subcategories to locate the product you'd like to edit.
  2. Select the icon to access the product details:
  3. Find the Product Class box. Click the drop down arrow and select the class you would like to attach.
  4. Save when finished.
  5. If desired, repeat steps 2-4 for your remaining products.
  6. Now, when items are purchased, they will report accordingly on the Product Mix report allowing you to view more accurate and itemized data.
