How Can We Help?

Kitchen Flow/Bump Feature Setup

By Robert | Updated

Overview

The kitchen flow/kitchen bump allows the cook to "bump" items off from one KDS to the next KDS in line. This is achieved by the kitchen flow where the order flows through the displays. The item will appear on all the kitchen displays within the flow. This is useful for kitchens where multiple cooks are needed to assemble the entrée. View an example of kitchen flows.

Please contact the Support team to help to set up a kitchen flow. Make sure to include the following details:

  • Revel URL + Establishment Name
  • How many KDS displays
  • The flow desired (i.e Sandwich KDS -> Salad KDS -> Sides KDS)

It is possible to create multiple flows as well.

NOTE: Not every product needs to follow the flow. Specific products can be assigned to specific flows, no flow, or just a specific KDS.

Assigning Products to a Flow

Once the kitchen flow has been created by support, products need to be assigned to it. You may modify a kitchen flow on your own at any time after it has been created.

  • From the Management Console ([yoursubdomain].revelup.com), navigate to Products.
  • Navigate to the desired product by either searching for it or via the Product Tree.
  • Click the edit icon to edit the product details.
  • Type Printers in the search bar on the left side of the screen.
  • From the search results, check the box next to Printers.
  • On the right side of the screen, click the field next to Printers and select the appropriate kitchen flow. You do not need to select each individual KDS.
  • Click Save. Refresh your point of sale to view your changes.

Setting Up Multiple Kitchen Views

You can set up multiple kitchen views that use one expedite view. This requires multiple kitchen flows assigned to the same product. Note that support must set up your flows first. After support sets up your flows, you can modify the KDS settings as follows:

  1. From the Management Console ([yoursubdomain].revelup.com), navigate to Establishment > Kitchen Views.
  2. Select the KDS you want to edit.
  3. Assign the settings for the line expedite KDS:
    • Default Kitchen View: Line Expedite
    • Complete/Done Becomes: Closed
    • In Progress: Off (unchecked)
  4. Assign the settings for the line kitchen KDS in that flow:
    • Default Kitchen View: Line Kitchen
    • Complete/Done Becomes: Closed
    • In Progress: Off (unchecked)
  5. Click Save after modifying each KDS.

With this setup, it does not matter which Line Kitchen KDS you mark an item as Complete from. The product will vanish from the other Line Kitchen displays and will display as done on the Line Expedite KDS.

Updating Your Bump Bar Layout

To update your bump bar layout, please perform the following steps:

  1. Unplug your bump bar completely.
  2. Remove the screws on the back of the casing of the bump bar.
  3. Slide out the current layout printout.
  4. Slide in the new printed layout.
  5. Screw the casing back onto the bump bar.
  6. Plug your bump bar back in and run a test transaction.

Note: You can print on regular 8.5x11" printer paper (recommended in color).
