Creating Product Categories and Subcategories

Categories are the top level of menu organization, followed by Subcategories and products. For example, your category might be Starters, with Subcategories for Soups, Salads, and Appetizers.

To create a category:

  1. Go to the Products tab in the Management Console ([yoursubdomain].revelup.com).
  2. Click +Category.

  3. Enter a category name.
  4. Click Save.

To create a subcategory:

  1. Find the category where you want your Subcategories to live. Expand the category by clicking on the  symbol next to it.
  2. Click +Subcategory.

  3. Enter a subcategory name.
  4. Click Save.

Adding a Product To Your Menu

When you've finished creating at least one category and subcategory, you're ready to add a product to your menu. To add a product:

  1. Expand the category and subcategory for your product by clicking the  symbol.
  2. Click +Product.

    addproduct_product.jpg

  3. Enter the Product Name.
  4. Enter the Product Cost. This is the cost of making the product.*
  5. Enter the Product Price. This is what the customer pays for the product.
  6. If you would like your products to appear in a certain order within the subcategory, enter a Sort number. For instance, if you enter 2 under sort, the product will appear second among the products in that subcategory. The default number is the next in order after existing products.
  7. Click Save.

This is a quick and easy way to add products to your menu, but it's not the only way. If you have a lot of products to add, you can import your list from an Excel spreadsheet or create your products on a matrix.

*Note about Price: When you create a recipe and ingredients for a product, you will have the option to let the cost of the combined ingredients automatically determine the cost of the product.
