Was there a communication sent out to customers?

Yes. On March 1, 2018, Revel sent a notice to customers that could be potentially impacted with notice of the potential sales tax changes prior to it impacting their invoices.

What are the changes that are occurring?

Revel has determined we are required to collect sales tax on certain taxable sales, depending on the location of the customer’s business. The amounts will be calculated based on your local tax jurisdiction. Revel will collect and remit these taxes to the appropriate authorities, as required by law.

When will the change happen?

Revel will begin collecting sales tax on April 1, 2018.

How do I know if my business will be impacted?

Revel customers who are billed a monthly subscription amount that includes both hardware and software fees (sometimes referred to as RaaS) may be subject to sales tax, regardless of the business location.

Customers on other pricing models may be impacted depending on the physical location of the business. These states have been identified as the states where clients may see taxes collected.

Sales tax will be calculated in accordance with sales tax rules for your specific location. The sales tax amounts will be based on the nature of the products and services you purchase and the location of your business.How does Revel determine the amount of sales tax to charge?

How will sales tax be calculated if customers have more than one location?

If a customer has multiple locations, sales tax will be calculated based on the applicable tax laws on the ‘ship to address’ for the location being billed.

Will my monthly bill change?

Revel is not changing the monthly fee charged to your business at this time. Some customers may notice that sales tax has been added to products or services that were not previously taxed, which may result in an increase to your monthly bill.

Why are the changes occurring?

In an effort to ensure our systems are up-to-date, support business needs, and comply with various laws, we performed a thorough review of the sales & use tax laws in jurisdictions throughout the country. As a result, we have determined Revel is required to collect sales tax on certain taxable sales, depending on the location of your business.

What if I am a tax-exempt entity?

If you believe your organization is exempt from sales tax, please send us current copy of your sales tax exemption certificate to or call our billing team at +1 (415) 744-1433 during the hours of 7:00 AM PST to 5:30 PM PST.
