Anything marked with an asterisk (*) is not available until Version 2.55, which you may not be using yet. Here's how software updates work with Revel:
- Your Management Console will automatically upgrade to the newest version in mid-October. No action is required!

The Kitchen Display System (KDS) allows orders to display on an iPad screen instead of using a kitchen printer. By having a KDS, you can easily assign items to appear on specific cook and prep stations.

Kitchen Display Styles
There are four styles that come with the KDS. In the main setting page of the KDS, at the left side will display all four styles to choose from. Each KDS style features different functionality.
The expedite screen displays all the items sent to the kitchen screens. It must be used in conjunction with the "kitchen" display style. It allows servers to see which items are awaiting completion from the "kitchen" display. Only when the kitchen completes all the items, a "Done" button will appear on the expedite screen.
Any voided orders display in the Status section display as red.
If the Use Prep Time to display items on the KDS setting is selected, then items will appear on the expedite screen regardless of prep time, providing a complete picture of everything coming into the kitchen:
Tile Expedite Screen
The tile expedite screen is similar to the regular expedite screen but displays each order as in a tile format. Items appear on the expedite immediately, regardless of prep time*. When the kitchen completes the entire order, the "Done" button will be selectable.
If the "Done" button is selected before the order is complete, it will allow options to complete the entire order thus enabling the regular "Done" button, close the order (removes it from the screen), or nothing.

Tile Expedite view supports a dark theme on iOS and Android*, which you can activate via the Settings area in the KDS.
The kitchen screen displays the items that need to be prepared by the cook. Normally placed by the chefs, and when chefs complete the item, they will select "Completed". This information will cascade to the Expedite or Tile Expedite screen:
Order Display Screen
The order display screen will display all the current orders waiting to be completed. Normally used as a customer display to show customers when their order is completed. The screen displays the call name/number, customer name, or order number and the amount of items in the order in the parenthesis. Also, on the left side, rotating pictures can be placed onto the left.
This is normally paired with an Apple TV to display onto a larger display such as a 50-60 inch TV. Or the iPad connects directly into the display via a HDMI cable. This is different from a digital menu board.
Item Claiming and Color Coding Identification
An item may be marked as in progress. The new Item Claiming Feature reduces confusion by displaying the KDS color that is preparing an item. To assign a specific color to a KDS:
- Double tap the upper left corner of the KDS Screen. Select the Settings icon, then enter your password. If you have not changed this code, the default password is 1234.
- Under Settings, tap In Progress Mode. Then tap Save & Close, and refresh your KDS.
- A color icon will now appear on the top left corner of your KDS:

Color Coding Identification for Order Type
Color coding identification in the header bar quickly identifies the type of the order: Eat In, Take Out, or Delivery. This helps the kitchen staff determine whether they will need to plate items or bag and box items. Below are set colors that cannot be changed:
- Green: Eat in orders
- Gray: To Go orders
- Purple: Catering orders
- Yellow: Delivery orders
To enable, navigate to Management Console Settings, and check the box for Color Dining. Then click Save:
KDS Filter by Dining Option
On the KDS, your list of orders can be filtered by dining option. On the top settings bar of the KDS, check the boxes for all dining options you want to view:
Send New Tickets on Send After the Order Reopened/Modified
After an order has been sent, it cannot be modified. With this KDS enhancement, as a new item is added to an existing order, a sub ticket will be created. This ticket will be labelled with the original order number, and consist of a ticket count (e.g., 1235-1, 1235-2, 1235-3). This enhancement will ensure your kitchen staff can easily view new items, so that nothing is missed.
Redo Expo Item Print and Allow Expo Done by Item
In version 2.48 and later, you can set individual items to print on done. On the KDS, this settings allows you to mark individual items (as opposed to entire orders) as done. In addition, once you mark an order or item as completed, it will print a chit and disappear from the KDS screen.
